Welcome to Sparks AYSO Section 166

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOLUNTEER TO COACH IN 2008!

  • The FALL 2009 season will be here before we know it!!!
  • It is mandatory that every volunteer coach complete a new volunteer registration form
each season and submit it to the coach administrator for review and approval before
    receiving their team rosters!!!
Region 166, Sparks, Nevada

There are three steps to becoming a new volunteer AYSO Coach:

First:  go to www.eayso.org and complete a volunteer application form for Region 166. Print 3
copies of the completed application form and submit them to the Division Coordinator (DC) for
the age group you will be coaching. Your application will then be processed. If you don’t have
access to a computer/internet, you can fill out a volunteer form by hand by requesting a blank
registration form from your DC . Please note that you will not be allowed to coach a Sparks AYSO
team until a volunteer registration form has been completed and processed per National AYSO
Safe Haven policy.

Second:   you must complete our online Safe Haven for coaches training course. This course is
required for all volunteers who sign up to coach and/or assistant coach a team in AYSO. (Safe
Haven training is a one time course. Returning certified coaches do not have to retake this course
each new season).

Third:   All new coaches must also attend and complete an age specific coaching clinic. By
participating in a coaching clinic, you will learn the proper AYSO philosophies and coaching
styles that have such a positive impact on the youth and adults of our program.

If you have coaching certifications from another AYSO region, please contact
crissiehull@ayso.org or call 1-800-872-2976 Ext 5476. Once you have registered in our region as
a volunteer, she will transfer your certifications to REGION 166 and email them to you. Then just
present them to our RC for approval. Otherwise you will have to attend one of our clinics listed
below. You can signup for any of them online or at our registrations in April and May 2009. Each volunteer who attends will receive a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION at the end of the course. Keep your certificate with you at all times while on the field during all practices and games.

SPARKS AYSO REGION 166 can not allow anyone to coach without being
certified as an AYSO COACH per AYSO National Guidelines.

SAFE HAVEN CLINICS:

Many of our volunteers have expressed concern over the years that they don’t have the time
needed to attend all the training clinics required to become a certified AYSO coach, so we’re
going to be trying something a little different this year. Instead of asking you to attend clinics
on 3 or 4 consecutive days, we’re going to try and set it up so you only have to attend one
clinic on one day. The first step towards becoming a certified coach is completion of the
Safe Haven Clinic as stated above in the “3 Steps to becoming a coach”. We are going to
give everyone the option of completing their Safe Haven training online this year. Once you
register as a volunteer on www.eAYSO.org, you will gain access to the online course. This will
allow you to complete the course at your leisure. Please note that we will also offer one “old
school” class room clinic on the date listed below with the time and location to be announced.
